How Did Josh Lose 120 lbs in 12 months?


Many of my followers have been watching Josh as he began his journey with me 12 months ago.  The number one question I have been asked is, “How did he lose 120 pounds in 12 months?”  Well, he didn’t do it by exercising it off. He only weight trained with me twice a week, and those were mostly time efficient, metabolic boosting, full body circuit workouts. I also gave him ‘homework’ and asked him to walk 3 times a week for 30-60 minutes. He did that MAYBE once or twice a week. Apparently, he didn’t lose his weight through the ‘do more eat less’ program because he didn’t really invest a lot of time ‘doing more’, and as I always say, exercising too much will only make you hungrier anyway!  He works ALOT of hours at his job as a manager of a local car sales business, and didn’t have the time to invest in too much exercise.  So I made it clear to him that his weight loss would come with what he was putting in his mouth…you can’t out-exercise a bad diet.

So what DID he put in his mouth? I always give my clients a choice on how they decide to change their eating.  If I have learned anything in the past 40 years as a trainer and nutrition educator it is that you can’t tell people what to do.  They have to find something that resonates with them.  I will lay some ideas on the table. I will educate them about how foods are processed in the body and what foods are healthier and more nutrient dense than others. But, in the long run the client needs to find a diet that they think they can follow. I present many choices…Calorie Counting, Low Carb, Keto, Weight Watchers, Paleo, Jenny Craig, etc.  I ask what has worked for them in the past. Josh had never really been on a diet and had been heavy his entire life, with some coaxing from me, he chose Low Carb. He chose it, and took off with it. Although he didn’t meticulously count his carbs, I gave him websites and lists of low carb foods to explore. More or less, he just didn’t eat foods that had carbs.

It worked for him. Josh is still continuing his journey. We have taken topless photos of him with every 50 lbs that he has lost.  When he gets where he wants to be then we will finally reveal the photos. So stay tuned!
