Simple Is Smart

Change. It is simple but it may not be easy.  Sometimes it is difficult to even know where to start, and when you figure that out, taking that first step toward your goal can be the hardest. Whether it is going back to college, getting married, switching careers, or simply that first step out the door to exercise.  When it comes to changing your eating habits, the choices for that first step may have you so confused you simply want to give up before you even learn how to walk.  Then, if you muster up the courage, that first step off the plank leads to an ocean of information.  As you flail around in the sea, the ocean gets deeper and you start getting into lonely water where the nutrition geeks live.  There are some scary sounding creatures lurking in the depths!  How do you keep your head above water, navigate the ocean, and tame the sharks?

Land Ahoy! Dallas and Melissa Hartwig have sent you a lifeboat!  They call it, It Starts with Food: Discover the Whole30 and Change Your Life in Unexpected Ways Just the title gives you an idea of the simplicity that lies within. If understanding something well enough to make it simple, means you really get it, then they must have very large brains. There is a reason ISWF is in the number slot in nutrition books on Amazon.  They have made simple look easy.

It Starts With Food is not only easy to read, it is entertaining! To be honest, I almost didn’t read it.  I thought it was going to be another diet book just regurgitating the same ole same ole.  I mean, how many ways can you reinvent the wheel? I am so glad I listened to all the tweets that were chirping loudly about this fun read. It takes some pretty dry and complicated nutrition information, throws in a dash of metaphors, a dollop of animated charts, a pinch of  humorous headings, some fine sifting with their ‘science-y’ stuff, and spices it up with some tough love.  Dallas and Melissa have mixed it all together to create a recipe for a hot and delicious book.  They even make the cooking and recipes look simple. All of this without dumbing it down.  It is so simple even Einstein would approve.
